Dear Nina, it was at this location in 1993 that I found your album of photographs. Was our meeting a coincidence or destiny? We will never know. Destiny offers more hope and aligns with my optimistic outlook. It also keeps the door open to possibilities—possibilities that extend to the limits of imagination. I’m not a collector of other people’s photographs or memories. Your pictures are the first I’ve assumed responsibility for. I often wonder if you intended for me to rescue them. If so, it would confirm the role of destiny. Since 1993, and probably before, you have taken me to places I wouldn’t have otherwise gone, introduced me to people I wouldn’t have met, and given me confidence that everything in our universe is connected—including the antique mall in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where your photograph album was abandoned. The mall was there, and now it’s gone. You were here, and now you’re gone. I’m here, and eventually….
